Ambulance Accident Today Hoffman Estates, Ill. — A serious crash involving an ambulance and multiple vehicles occurred early today on Interstate 90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway), injuring an emergency medical worker and resulting in the arrest of a driver.
The collision happened around 1:56 a.m. when a black Ford sedan and a black Kia SUV were involved in an initial crash on the westbound lanes near Barrington Road. An ambulance responding to assist at the scene was struck when a semi-truck collided with the Kia and overturned, pushing the disabled vehicle into an EMS worker who was outside the ambulance.
The injured emergency worker was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The semi-truck driver was also taken to the hospital with injuries. Authorities arrested the driver of the Ford sedan on suspicion of driving under the influence.
All westbound lanes of I‑90 were temporarily closed as crews responded, investigated, and cleared the scene. Traffic was diverted at Barrington Road and later reopened, though motorists were advised to expect delays.
Police continue to investigate the sequence of events that led to the crash and the factors involved.
